1973 — The Start

• John P. Sanders lost his job when the chemical company he worked for closed. His former customers asked if he'd help finish the projects that company had left unfinished, then asked if he'd become their chemical supplier. He said yes. That's PowerKleen's first sale.

1975 — The First Product

• John formulated PowerKleen's first product, an all-purpose cleaner his kids named "Magic." His wife, Joyce, became the company's first receptionist and bookkeeper when they incorporated in Florida in 1979, the same year John built the company's first dedicated facility, 4,000 square feet, in Oldsmar.

1980s — Growth Through Acquisition

• PowerKleen grew by acquiring other chemical businesses, Trichem Industries, Patton Parts Washers, E-Z Parts Washers, and Richette Corporation/Al-Be Chemicals among the first. In 1986, the acquisition of Power Kleen Corporation and the launch of "Right Off," a specialty ready-mix truck wash and concrete remover, moved PowerKleen into the Ready Mix Concrete industry for the first time.

1988–1993 — Going National

• More acquisitions followed, Specialty Chemical & Equipment Corporation, Tampa Bay Chemical, MAC Distributors, and Johnson & Johnson Supply. The 1993 acquisition of Bell Chemical was the turning point that took PowerKleen from a Florida wholesaler to a national competitor with nationwide distribution.

Since Then

• PowerKleen has continued acquiring companies, more than 20 since the early 1990s, while building out its R&D program and launching an eco-friendly product line in 2005. Today the company formulates and distributes more than 1,000 products across a dozen industries.
